Keys Immigrant Coalition
Advocacy. Education. Outreach.
The Keys Immigrant Coalition (KIC) is a volunteer run community organization committed to protecting and defending the rights of immigrants in Monroe County, Florida through education, advocacy and outreach.
Advocacy
We raise awareness of immigrant issues in the Florida Keys. We advocate for the dignity, safety and inclusion of all Keys residents.
Education & Outreach
We aim to address the tough questions that immigrants in our community face: questions about citizenship, residency, asylum, filing fees, undocumented issues, etc. Working with local, state and national organizations, we educate ourselves on immigration issues, make connections and bridge resources, host biannual legal clinics, and provide aid for local immigrants.
As a means to end isolation, we created a unique visitation program at the Monroe County ICE Detention Center, offering weekly English classes and monthly Know your Rights sessions to the immigrants detained there. Once the detention center was closed, we offered free weekly English classes in our community.
